On Wednesday, May 15th Washington CPA Foundation contributors, trustees, board members, and scholarship reviewers assembled at the WSCPA for a reception to be honored for their contributions supporting future CPAs. About 40 of this year’s scholarship winners from across the state attended to meet the people who helped make their scholarship awards possible and to network. This was my sixth Foundation Reception in my career at the WSCPA and it’s always my favorite event of the year. Being in that room is an incredible reminder that when this community comes together, amazing things happen. Here are just a few stats for our 2019-2020 scholarship awards:

  • $516,000 in scholarships to 84 recipients in our state
  • $5,000 were awarded to each undergraduate and 5th year student recipient
  • $8,000 awards were added to further support all recipients pursuing a Master’s degree
  • 19 colleges were represented by winners in our state
  • 39% of our scholarship winners self-identified as diverse, and 36% are first generation college students
