Accepting council member applications through June 15

OLYMPIA, WASH. – May 1, 2018 – Today, the Washington State Department of Revenue announced the creation of a Business Advisory Council that will provide feedback to the department about how tax policy and administration affect taxpayers.

The council will consist of up to 16 members representing a broad range of Washington business stakeholders.

“We are actively searching for a diverse group of stakeholders to serve on the council,” said Director Vikki Smith. “Tax administration is complex, and we want an open forum to better understand how our decisions affect taxpayers.”

The Department of Revenue is accepting applications for the Business Advisory Council through June 15. Prospective council members can apply at dor.wa.gov/about/business-advisory-council.

The purpose of this council is to facilitate dialogue between the department and representatives from Washington’s business community to discuss tax policy and operational issues.

“We want feedback from our stakeholders,” said Smith. “The council will provide the department with ideas, input and perspectives, and create a forum that provides fair tax administration and quality service to our customers.”

Agenda topics will include items such as current and proposed tax policies, stakeholder impacts, and outreach efforts. The council will meet four times a year, beginning in August. All meetings will be open to the public.
